We have a number of groups within the congregation dedicated to ensuring that local residents receive enough to eat. Here are the major ones:
Cedar Lane has a long partnership with the Manna Food Center. Members and friends donate non-perishable goods throughout the year and for special initiatives. Donations may be placed in the large blue bin outside the doors to the chapel at any time. Our youth often visit the Manna Food Center to volunteer with packing grocery bags and our seventh-grade classes are leading the regular deliveries of our donations to Manna. Contact Coordinator of Youth Ministries, Jon Watkins (firstname.lastname@example.org), to learn about youth volunteering and email@example.com to participate in food collection and deliveries.
Cedar Lane also has a close connection with Shepherd’s Table, a nonprofit in Silver Spring whose mission is to help people who are homeless or in need by providing meals and many other services. We are committed to work to alleviate hunger in our local community. Many Cedar Lane members and friends donate fresh produce and nonperishable foods monthly. Two groups of volunteers meet in the church kitchen to prep the vegetables in preparation for delivery to Shepherd’s Table, along with the nonperishable contributions. The need is great and we always welcome additional contributions of food and assistance preparing the veggies. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss procuring, preparing or delivering food as part of these teams.
Community Based Shelter:
Once a year, in December, Cedar Lane provides food for an entire week for the Community Based Shelter. This is a great opportunity for families to work together to give back during the holiday season. Contact email@example.com to learn more!
