SUMMARY:Ecosystems Study Group
DESCRIPTION:What are the root causes of climate change\, biodiversity loss\, ocean acidification\, and other symptoms of our “overshoot” of Earth’s carrying capacity? What are the best ways to address our predicament? What is our moral and ethical response? ESG was founded in 2017 to explore these questions and more using a “systems thinking” approach. Our goal is to educate ourselves\, activist groups\, and the general public. We have a very active Google Group that allows us to share a wide variety of information\, and we meet twice per month to discuss what we’ve learned. We also host a number of speakers at events which we open to the wider public. Past speakers include Nate Hagens\, Charlie Hall\, Richard Heinberg\, Alice Friedemann\, Chris Clugston\, Jack Alpert\, John Seager\, Terry Spahr\, and Gaya Herrington.

SUMMARY:MLK Day of Service (Ages 12–17)
DESCRIPTION:MLK Day is a great day to do something concrete together.\n\nTeens are invited to help assemble care bags for neighbors in our community facing food insecurity. We are partnering with Food Justice DMV\, who serves a largely immigrant population in Maryland\, DC\, and Virginia. The morning is active\, collaborative\, and hands-on—working side by side to create something that will be shared directly with people who need it.\n\n\nParticipants are encouraged to bring donations such as maseca (corn flour)\, cooking oil\, 2 lb bags of rice\, 2 lb bags of beans\, and diapers (sizes 5 and 6). Notes of encouragement will be included with each bag. We will also be collecting donations of maseca\, oil\, rice\, beans\, and diapers before and after service on January 11 and January 18.\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n				\n					Register Here

DESCRIPTION:What are the root causes of climate change\, biodiversity loss\, ocean acidification\, and other symptoms of our “overshoot” of Earth’s carrying capacity? What are the best ways to address our predicament? What is our moral and ethical response? ESG was founded in 2017 to explore these questions and more using a “systems thinking” approach. Our goal is to educate ourselves\, activist groups\, and the general public. We have a very active Google Group that allows us to share a wide variety of information\, and we meet twice per month to discuss what we’ve learned. We also host a number of speakers at events which we open to the wider public. Past speakers include Nate Hagens\, Charlie Hall\, Richard Heinberg\, Alice Friedemann\, Chris Clugston\, Jack Alpert\, John Seager\, Terry Spahr\, and Gaya Herrington.
