Our annual benefit concert has become one of the highlights of the church year, having raised in excess of $40,000 for local charities, while presenting top flight musical performances. This year we will support Shepherd’s Table, a non-profit organization in downtown Silver Spring that provides basic services for people experiencing homelessness or in need, such as meals, clothing, medical support, information and referral, social services, vision care, and much more. Since 1983, Shepherd’s Table has been a necessary and effective resource, welcoming and serving the community’s most vulnerable populations in an effective and compassionate manner. In the last year, they have moved into a new facility, expanded their food service program, and are serving more than 2,500 individuals in need. Having served over 1.4 million meals without interruption since opening 34 years ago, Shepherd’s Table anticipates serving over 100,000 meals in 2017. Join us for this marvelous night of charitable giving and excellent music.
The Cedar Lane Chamber Orchestra, Choir, and pianist Dr. Jasmin Lee will be front and center for our annual benefit concert. Dr. Henry Sgrecci will lead the chamber orchestra in Aaron Copland's original thirteen-piece ballet suite, Appalachian Spring, Jasmin Lee will perform from Samuel Barber's Piano Sonata, Op. 26, and the Choir will sing selections from Randall Thompson's Frostiana.
