This is ultimately a sermon about hope—about the possibility that intentional religious community, rooted in justice and love, remains not just relevant but essential for raising young people who can help heal our broken world.Show More

Appreciation & Closing Yellow Velvet

Refrain: Solidarity forever
Solidarity forever
Solidarity forever
For the union makes us strong
When the union’s inspiration through the workers’ blood shall run
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
But the union makes us strong

Refrain: Solidarity forever
It is we who plowed the prairies, built the cities where they trade
Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid
Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made
But the union makes us strong

Refrain: Solidarity forever
They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn
But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn
We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn
That the union makes us strong

Refrain: Solidarity forever
In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold
Greater than the might of atoms, magnified a thousand fold
We can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old
For the union makes us strong

Refrain: Solidarity forever

Next Sunday, August 25, 2024 – “Loving the Anxious Generation” Rev. Dayna Edwards & the Chalice Messengers
As school begins in the region, let’s explore together what Unitarian Universalism has to offer, “the anxious generation.” GenZ is both the future and the now of our faith. What lessons can we learn from our past so that we can love this generation into a place of spiritual growth and joy? This week Cedar Lane welcomes UUs from around the region as part of the “Preaching Along the Potomac” series.Show More

We light this chalice in gratitude, acknowledging the abundance that fills our lives.

As the flame illuminates our space, may it remind us of the light within and around us, the countless blessings we often overlook, and the profound connections we share with each other.

In this moment, let us pause and give thanks for the love, kindness, and support that enriches our journey.

May this light guide us to cultivate a spirit of gratitude in all we do, recognizing the gifts of each day and the beauty of our shared community.

The Flower Ceremony, or Flower Communion, is an annual ritual celebrating beauty, human uniqueness, joy, diversity, and community. The ritual was created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Rev. Norbert Fabian …Čapek of Prague and introduced to the United States by his wife, Rev. Mája Čapek.
During the service, everyone brings a flower to place in a shared vase. The flowers are blessed by the congregation and ministers, then redistributed so each person takes home a different flower. All are invited to participate, and we will have extra flowers available for anyone who needs one.

DEPART TO SERVE
Join us for coffee and fellowship after service! Our Annual Meeting will follow at 11:15.
We are grateful for everyone:
who creates this community in person and at home.
whose generosity and support ensure financial support for our worship services and ministries – our Annual Fund Campaign pledgers and contributors
to our worship, music ministry, and our A/V teams for preparing and co-creating worship together with the congregation today.
to our facilities and office staff, our membership and faith formation staff, ushers, greeters, and caring team volunteers, for engaging with and caring for our community.
Isabel Marbury-Mauro, Kate Harrison, and Cathy Knapper for coordinating today’s flower offerings
Next Sunday, June 9, 2024: “Ministry is What We All Do – Together” – Abhi Janamanchi Within any voluntary association, there will always be leaders and followers, talkers and listeners, dreamers and doers. This service will explore volunteerism as a spiritual practice. Together, we will celebrate the spirit of service and the power of community through our volunteer recognition ritual.Show More
