Schedule: Part-time, 18 hours per week; non-exempt

Job Responsibilities

The Bookkeeper manages and maintains accurate financial records, ensures compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, and supports various financial processes across Cedar Lane.

Essential Functions

  • Provides bookkeeping services that promote sound and timely financial management and decision making by organizational leadership

  • Ensures accounting systems are set up and maintained, with updates as needed,  to meet the needs of the congregation and its leadership

  • Processes contributions and all other revenue in a timely manner; ensures contributions accurately recorded in accounting software and church management software

  • Pays all congregational bills and obligations in a timely manner, ensuring proper authorization

  • Administers payroll.  Sets up and maintains payroll records for each employee, withholding and depositing withheld monies as required by law, and providing employees with a record of earnings and withholdings. Completes required government forms and reconciliations of monies withheld and deposited as required by law.

  • Prepares annual 1099s

  • Reconciles monthly bank and investment account statements; monitors cash balances to ensure they are sufficient to meet obligations.

  • Reconciles credit card and charge accounts.  

  • Completes transfers between accounts as needed and as scheduled.  

  • Prepares and distributes quarterly giving statements for members and donors; enters pledge commitments into church management software

  • Responds to requests for contribution information from congregants

  • Manages petty cash

Other Responsibilities

  • Meets standards of confidentiality and complies with organizational policies and procedures

  • Attends staff meetings and retreats

  • Other duties, as assigned

Knowledge and Skills Required

Ability to work quickly and accurately in a high-volume environment; excellent organizational and data entry skills.  Ability to identify and implement workflow efficiencies.

Excellent working knowledge of and experience with double entry bookkeeping, nonprofit fund accounting, and payroll processing.  Experience with accurately importing and synchronizing financial data across platforms, and comfortable with digital documentation.  

Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO) required; familiarity with Google Workspace preferred. General familiarity with donation platforms and donor management systems preferred.  

Attention to detail required, with the ability to work efficiently and independently, as well as to prioritize tasks.  Ability to problem solve, take initiative, and complete tasks.  Excellent oral and written communication skills required, with the ability to enforce policies while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Compensation

Starting hourly wage $26.50 - $28.25, dependent upon experience.  Access to benefits, including health insurance (employee only or family); dental insurance; life insurance; and LTD insurance.
