Alliance Luncheon – The Pacific Islands: History and Current Significance
Chinese aggression in the Pacific and climate change have thrust the often-neglected Pacific Islands into the news lately. Don Bliss, a former Peace Corps volunteer lawyer in Micronesia, discusses the three geographic and ethnic cultures of Oceania–Micronesia, Polynesia, and Melanesia. He will explore the great migration story of their settlement, the influence of the European explorers and colonialists, and the special relationship today between the United States and Micronesia. He will also comment on the work of the Peace Corps in the islands.
Join us for a monthly luncheon on 2nd Thursdays from 11:30 AM-2 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
