Asoka Bandarage

Integrating social analysis and Buddhist philosophy, this talk explores the roots of the global crisis and an alternative path toward peace, justice, and ecological sustainability. It examines the cultivation of wisdom and compassion—the defining values of human evolution—as a means of addressing political and economic extremism, global violence, and the creation of more balanced socio-economic systems.

Asoka Bandarage has an M.A. in Religion and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Yale University. She has served on the faculties of Brandeis University, Georgetown University and Mount Holyoke where she received tenure. Prof. Bandarage is the author of five books and many other publications on political-economy, ecology, ethno-religious conflict as well as mindfulness and social action. She currently serves on the Advisory Boards of Critical Asian Studies, and Interfaith Moral Action on Climate. www.bandarage.com
