South Asian Spiritual Fellowship
Welcome to the South Asian Spiritual Fellowship at Cedar Lane!
We are a welcoming, multigenerational community centered on people of South Asian heritage, their families, and others who seek meaningful connections with the religious and spiritual traditions, cultures, and experiences of South Asia. We come from different faiths and backgrounds, including those who follow no particular religion.
South Asia is home to a remarkable diversity of religious and spiritual traditions, languages, cultures, and ways of understanding life. Our Fellowship offers opportunities to celebrate this heritage, explore spiritual questions, share stories, music, art, and food, and build friendships across cultures and generations. We hope to create a place where children and young people can connect with their heritage, elders can share their wisdom, and people can find companionship, support, and a sense of belonging.
Become a Part of What We are Building Together
Our Fellowship is grounded in the Unitarian Universalist values of pluralism, justice, equity, generosity, interdependence, and transformation, with love at the center, and in the inherent worthiness and dignity of every person. We honor the diversity of South Asian religious and spiritual traditions while recognizing that no single tradition, identity, or community speaks for everyone. We are committed to challenging racism, caste discrimination, patriarchy, and other forms of oppression, including within our own communities. We seek to build relationships across borders and differences, guided by mutual respect, compassion, and a commitment to justice. We seek to practice these commitments in how we relate to one another, make decisions, and serve the wider world.
Cedar Lane is a community of communities, where different experiences, identities, and traditions enrich our shared congregational life. The South Asian Spiritual Fellowship is part of that larger community, creating opportunities for connection within Cedar Lane and beyond. The Fellowship welcomes participation from both Cedar Lane and the wider community.
Our leadership circle, in consultation with the wider community, has identified a first draft of the Fellowship's programming pillars:
Support
Seva (community service)
Celebrations
Programs (food, storytelling, and spirituality)
Art and Activism
Emerging Ideas/Activities.
These are starting points, and we welcome your ideas as the Fellowship grows.
Connect With Us
We invite you to be part of this growing community. Join us for a gathering or celebration, get to know one another, and share your experiences and interests. You can help plan an event, contribute your talents, join an area of activity that interests you, or propose something new. Your participation will help shape what the Fellowship becomes.
Come with your family, bring a friend, or come on your own. We look forward to meeting you and building this Fellowship together.
