The Safety and Security Ministry Team is an informal, ad hoc group of Cedar Lane members that supports the congregation when called upon to provide for, and assist with, the safety and security of congregational events. This role may include working on-site with officers from the Montgomery County Police Department or other law enforcement agencies. Events may include large gatherings at Cedar Lane where hundreds of people attend, with prominent, well-known figures present, programs or meetings that are controversial and merit a heightened level of attention or, less commonly, internal congregational matters.
We strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for Cedar Lane. We respond to the call of the ministers, the executive director, and other senior staff when they request activation of our team. Our call-ups may be months or days apart. We do not have regular team meetings.
Engagement Opportunities
We look for members who are comfortable performing this crucial task for Cedar Lane. Our team currently has ten members, both women and men. We seek Cedar Laners who are observant, discreet, calm under pressure, able to de-escalate conflict, and have excellent social intelligence and interpersonal skills. We also place an emphasis on those who are experienced in situational awareness, communication, teamwork, and have emotional maturity. All with a priority for a heart of service, safety, and the well-being of the Cedar Lane community.
