Afghan Refugee Support

Contact

Welcoming the stranger is a sacred calling. Cedar Lane volunteers help Afghan families resettle with housing, transportation, job support, and community care.

The Afghan Refugee Support Team assists three families being helped by the congregation to be independent and self-sufficient.

Ways we support refugee families:

  • Helping them learn to navigate our different governmental and cultural systems, such as the educational and health care systems including English language proficiency.

  • Helping them to obtain gainful employment adequate to support their families.

  • Helping them obtain adequate housing.

  • Providing funds to families to cover emergent needs that refugees may face.

  • Raising funds and soliciting donations of food, diapers, clothing, and other items needed by the families.

  • Tutoring adults in English and students in academic subjects.

  • Providing driving lessons.

  • Driving to appointments, sports, and other activities.

Enagement Opportunities

Assistance with any of the above activities is welcomed. Please contact us if you are interested in helping once, occasionally, or on an ongoing basis.
